Dr. Calcote was born in Chapel Hill, North Carolina and moved to Charleston when his father, Dr. Clarence Calcote started his orthodontic practice in 1958. Dr. Bob graduated from Porter Gaud High School and Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia with a Bachelors of Science degree in Biology. At Hampden-Sydney, he was involved in many activities including Students for Community Services and Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He also played football and lacrosse, serving as the captain of each team his senior year.

Dr. Bob attended the Medical University of South Carolina School of Dentistry in 1979 and graduated in 1983 with his Doctoral in Dental Medicine (DMD). He continued his education at the Georgetown University School of Dentistry in Washington, D.C. where he earned his Masters of Science and Certificate in Orthodontics in 1985.

Dr. Bob returned to Charleston and joined his father’s practice to continue providing the Charleston area with quality orthodontic care. Dr. Bob also began an active involvement in the community. He has been a member of the Charleston Breakfast Rotary Club for over 20 years having served on its board and on many of its committees. He has been and is still actively involved in his church First (Scots) Presbyterian, having served as a deacon and two terms as an elder, as a Sunday School teacher and youth leader. He also participated in Special Olympic events and functions with his oldest son, Robert.

Dr. Bob is deeply dedicated to his profession as is shown by his involvement in dental organizations. He is Past President of both the South Carolina of Orthodontists and the Coastal District Dental Society and past board member of the South Carolina Dental Association. Currently he is serving on the Executive Committee of the Southern Association of Orthodontists (SAO), which consists of the 11 southern states that comprise the second largest regional association of the American Association of Orthodontists. In 2011 he will serve as President of the SAO. He is also serving as a Delegate-at-Large for the American Association of Orthodontists representing the SAO. Dr. Bob is a member in good standing of the American Dental Association, the South Carolina Association of Orthodontists.

Dr. Bob enjoys all that Charleston has to offer, great beaches and waterways to boat and fish in. He also enjoys cooking and golfing.
